Kami Pothukuchi is the founder and director of SEED Wayne, a campus-community collaborative dedicated to building sustainable food systems in Detroit, Mich. She is also an associate professor of urban studies and planning at Wayne State University in Detroit. Her work, research and writings have made her one of the most well-known food-system planners.

Stratton will address the long-term effects of a new funding emphasis on art practices as entrepreneurialism and "placemaking" as euphemism, and how the increased prioritization of placemaking by private funders potentially instrumentalizes artists to fill political and social gaps left by deteriorating federal, state and civic funding for social programs and community development.
