Dr. Orr is Tulloch Professor of Genetics and director of the Institiute of Translational Neuroscience at the University of Minnesota Medical School. He will present the third and final Ramsey Lecture, "Molecular Mechanisms of Neurodegeneration: Basic Science to Therapeutic Leads."

Orr's research focuses on the molecular genetics of mammalian
development and neurodegenerative diseases. In a collaborative effort,
the Orr laboratory cloned and characterized the mutation causing
dominant ataxis, spinocerebellar ataxia type 1 (SCA1) showing that an
expanded CAG trinucleotide repeat causes SCA1. Orr recently
received a highly competitive NIH Recovery Act grant for his SCA 1 work. Orr received his Ph.D. from Washington University in St. Louis and a M.A. from Harvard University.
