The Ames Piano Quartet, the resident chamber music ensemble at Iowa State University, holds a unique position in the chamber music field as one of the few piano quartets in the world.

A special concert will be presented at 7:30 this Sunday, April 3 at the Martha Ellen Tye Recital Hall, by guest violinist Charles Castleman and the Ames Piano Quartet. Castleman, a prizewinner at the Brussels and Tchaikowsky Competitions, has been a soloist with many major orchestras, including Philadelphia, Chicago, Boston, and Moscow among others. An active teacher, he is the founder of the Castleman Quartet Program and Professor of Violin at the Eastman School of Music.

The concert will consist of a special lecture-performance by Castleman of the Franck Violin Sonata, emphasizing its links to French poetry. The Ames Quartet will follow with a performance Paul Schoenfeld's "Carolina Reveille," and the musicians will join forces to conclude with American composer Arthur Foote's Piano Quintet.

Charles Castleman is funded, in part, by the Alvin Edgar Fund for the Performing Arts, a part of the Iowa State University Foundation.
