Lecture: Ceramic Tradition/Contemporary Design
Assistant Curator Adrienne Gennett and Head of Integrated Studio Arts and ceramicist Ingrid Lilligren will discuss the objects and ideas behind the exhibition Ceramic Tradition/Contemporary Design. They will explore traditional ceramic techniques developed over thousands of years and how those techniques continue to be used by and inspire contemporary ceramicists working today.
Bonsai Show
Iowa enthusiasts will display multiple styles of bonsai including examples of leaning pine trees, tropical material, temperate deciduous trees, group plantings (forests) and trees growing on rocks instead of in pots.
Soap Making - Hot Process Class
Learn soap making from scratch, using a hot-process crock pot method. With this method the "cure time" is greatly reduced. The ability to use finicky fragrances that normally can't be used with a traditional Cold Process method is the trademark of this technique. Lye safety will be emphasized. A messy but fun process so wear old clothing with a long-sleeved shirt. Leave class with about 1.5 pounds of soap.
Performance: The Seagull
Unforgettable characters reveal the passion of everyday life. Hearts get broken, hope brings only disappointment, and living begins to seem like an exercise in managing regret. The playwright himself described his script as having "little action, tons of love."
Argentine Tango Practica
This Milonga (dance party) is a multi-level class with lots of time to enjoy the music and dance.
