Yarn Dyeing
Learn the basics of acid dyeing your own yarn for knitting, crocheting or weaving projects! Participants will be able to choose two skeins of lace (880 yards), fingering (sock) (462 yards), or worsted weight yarn (220 yards). Students can dye both skeins the same for a larger project or dye two unique skeins. Additional yarn will be available for purchase at the time of the class.
Argentine Tango Practica
This Milonga (dance party) is a multi-level class with lots of time to enjoy the music and dance. From 4- 5pm moves for beginners are introduced with a different figure each week along with techniques for dancing better. From 5 - 7pm the dance floor is yours for dancing under the guidance of Valerie and working with different partners. An intermediate level figure will also be introduced during this time.

Bookshelves
Create a ladder rung style bookshelf for using 2 x 4's as the basic building blocks. Beginners will gain confidence in using power tools in the woodshop. More experienced students can work with Dan to go beyond the basics on their project. The Woodshop Orientation class is helpful, but not required for this class.
Silk Painting
Use resist and dye to create beautiful images on a silk scarf. This is an art form that is fun for artists of any skill level. Learn effects such as water-blending, heat-setting, and salting the dye to create color bursts.
Stained Glass
Create a beautiful piece to capture the light through your windows. Learn how to cut, foil and solder glass using a pattern you choose or design.

Portrait Drawing
Quickly develop an understanding of the fundamentals and structure of the human face and head. Through fun and unique exercises, unlearn common drawing and perception errors, and practice, practice, practice! You will find that your ability to draw evocative and accurate portraits will greatly improve. Practice with a variety of drawing media including graphite, charcoal and Conté.
SUB Live Music: Frontier Ruckus w/Buxton
Since 2008, Frontier Ruckus has been creating beautiful, delicate, and sometimes haunting songs. The band has been featured by numerous notable sources including Paste Magazine, NPR Music, and Rolling Stone.

Lecture: Inspiring the Next Generation of Volunteers
Acting Peace Corps Director Carrie Hessler-Radelet will discuss and take questions about Peace Corps service. She will be joined by Peace Corps Iowa State recruiter Susan Manikowski. This discussion will follow Acting Director Hessler-Radelet's joint presentation with USAID Administrator Dr. Rajiv Shah (4:30 p.m., Great Hall, Memorial Union), with a 10-minute break intervening.
Bookbinding with Acrylic Transfers
Books bound with hard covers date back to the 5th century, with pages made from parchment folded and sewn on to strong cords or ligaments attached to wooden boards and covered with leather. Explore this historical technique and fill the pages with image transfers using acrylic mediums - a process you can also use in painting, sculpture, collage and mixed media.

"Little Dresses for Africa" Work Weekend
Simple dresses made out of pillowcases provide relief and hope for the children of Africa. We will provide the supplies, but can use the hands of volunteers to assist with making the dresses. From cutting fabric and ironing to sewing, there is a place for anyone who has an hour or two to spare.
Pastels Workshop
Immerse yourself in pastels with artist Christian Vandehaar! This workshop will meet in the Pioneer Room where Vandehaar's exhibit of pastels will surround and inspire participants. Bring a set of chalk pastels and create a landscape with a sunset while learning different color theories and tried-and-true techniques. Experience the benefits and troubleshoots of pastels and how to work around them.
