Discovery Station
The purpose of Reiman Gardens' discovery stations is to add a fun, informal activity in the Gardens during the summer that relates to the themed garden areas. The discovery stations are family oriented and designed so both youth and adults can participate in the activities.

Backyard Gourmet (Food in the Gardens)
Would you be prepared to make a meal from the weeds in your own backyard? Join herbalist Lynn Parkey for a hands-on class exploring the pestilent plants that many of us disregard, like stinging nettles, cleavers, dandelions, and chickweed. This class will include a plant walk-and-pick near the woods across University Blvd., as well as a cooking demonstration and tasting back at the Gardens.

Youth Program: Plant Pals
Join us and cultivate a real garden at Reiman Gardens. We will learn about and grow lots of vegetables, pumpkins, tomatoes and sunflowers, as well as beautiful flowers. Each session has hands-on activities to interact with all the wonderful plants that we enjoy and eat. Classes are great for kids of all ages to participate in with an adult.

Great Plants for Iowa Series: Medium & Large Deciduous Shrubs
This series will allow participants to develop knowledge of the wide variety of garden plants that grow well in Central Iowa. Covering nearly 500 plants, these 16 classes are spread across several years. Each class focuses on identification, cultural requirements, and the use of the plants in gardens and the broader landscape.

Kids' Story Time
Each session features a theme with two or three books read aloud followed by a related craft or activity. The books, crafts and activities are intended for children ages two to seven years old. All children must be accompanied by an adult.
Workshop: Floral Design Series
"Stars and Stripes Patriotic Arrangements" - Celebrate the Fourth of July and honor those who served in the Armed Forces with a stylish arrangement in red, white, and blue. Learn the tips and skills used by professionals and create your own one-of-a-kind floral designs. All 2014 class topics were designed on a planetary theme.

Bookbinding Workshop
Learn more about historical bookbinding techniques and make your own unique handmade books using variations of the Coptic stitch. Leave class with two books and the know-how to keep cutting, folding and stitching more. A perfect use for that handmade paper from the Papermaking class. Appropriate for ages 10 and up; hand sewing skills are helpful.

Class: Black and White Digital Photography
This is a four week course on Wednesdays, July 2, July 9, July 16, and July 23 This course builds on the technical foundations of digital photography, expanding practical skills while also fostering your aesthetic awareness and vision as a photographer. Mark Stoltenberg will help you look at the world in a whole new way as you further explore the tools, techniques and identify the best subject matter to create black and white digital images.
