Youth Program: Caterpillar Club
"Under the Sea" If you like Kids Story Time, you'll flip for Caterpillar Club! Please join us for winter storytelling twice per month, from October to March. Each gathering features a theme as we read aloud two or three books, and wrap up with related cooperative activities and crafts great for groups and individuals alike. Materials are intended for children ages two to seven years old, and all children must be accompanied by an adult.
Nanovaccine Initiative Seminar
"Dispatches From the Front Lines of Vaccination Policy and Practice," Lori Parsons, Iowa Immunization Coalition. Parsons will discuss how parents make vaccination decisions and the challenges healthcare providers face with current vaccines. A reception precedes her seminar at 1:30 p.m.
Education Program: Black Light Butterfly Roosting
Join Nathan Brockman, Christina Reiman Butterfly Wing Curator, for a special black light butterfly show. Learn the science behind the way many butterfly patterns fluoresce when exposed to black light, and view them in a new way as they clump together and begin roosting for the night. Preregistration and payment required by November 18.
International Week: International night
Features songs and traditional and modern dance presentations by multicultural student organizations. Students from all over the world will share their heritage.
Public hearing: Regents' agenda
At this public hearing, individuals have an opportunity to provide early input on agenda items for the state Board of Regents Dec. 3 telephonic board meeting.
Closing Reception: "Fall" by Mat Greiner
Closing reception for "Fall," an exhibition of new work by conceptual artist and integrated visual arts graduate student Mat Greiner consisting of an installation and video efforts. Absurdity, failure and unreliability are central to Greiner's work, expressed through collisions of vignettes and fragmentary constructions. In "Fall," the works circle existential notions of mortality and soulfulness.
