ClubFest
ClubFestII is an opportunity for students to browse through over 800 clubs and organizations to find out how to get involved on campus. Although there are over 800 clubs and orgs on campus, a large sample will have booths with informational hand-outs and giveaways to highlight their club and recruit new members.
Reception and resource fair for new faculty and staff
This event is intended for all employees hired in the last 12 months. Refreshments will be served and a short program will begin at 4:10 p.m. Those who wish to attend should RSVP to Ruth Caccia-Birch by Aug. 29.
Class: Haiku in the Gardens
Join local published poet, Dennis Maulsby, for another course in four weekly sessions examining the history, nature, and variations of haiku poetry. Learn to write and appreciate this beautiful poetic art within the endlessly inspiring landscape of the outdoor gardens, focusing on the splendor of autumn. No poetry or writing background required-perfect for beginners and those wishing to improve their grasp of the form.
Class: Macro Flower & Insect Photography
Mark Stoltenberg is back to teach a four part workshop covering the basics of macro flower and insect photography. Topics include equipment and how to use it, depth of field, aperture, light, composition, finding your subject, and tips and tricks. Each class is broken into 3 parts: classroom discussion, hands-on practice taking pictures by the students, and review of the images taken.

The son of Rick Nielsen, founding member and guitarist for Cheap Trick, Miles Nielsen has managed to make a name for himself as a true, Midwest Americana rocker. With a self-proclaimed "Beatlesque-Cosmic-Americana" style, don't expect to hear any 80s power pop at this show. Instead, Miles and his band use a distinct blend of crunchy guitars, southern rock keys, and three part vocal harmonies to create charming, old-fashioned, story-telling songs

Kramer-Marks Equine Seminar
"Lameness Diagnosis In Horses: A Forty-Year Perspective," Dr. Anthony Webber. Webber will describe his system of evaluating lame horses with some reflections on his career in equine practice.

Exhibit opening and reception
The exhibit "Elizabeth Cuellar's Mexico: Textile Variations 1955-1985," will be on display Sept. 7 to Dec. 7 (Mondays-Fridays 11 a.m.-4 p.m.). Elizabeth Snoddy Cuellar, ISU alumna and Mexican dress and textile scholar, will present comments on her collection (5:30-6:15 p.m., 2019 Morrill) as part of the event, with light refreshments to follow.
Oil Painting
Through this class, students will become comfortable using oil paint, and gain confidence in color mixing, composition, and paint application. It is meant for both beginners who have never painted before and more experienced painters who would like to try a new perspective and get a chance to paint with others. Students will share supplies.
Art and Politics: Cultural Activism in a Time of Crisis
Susan Platt is a freelance art historian, art critic and a political activist. She will speak in conjunction with the Christian Petersen Art Museum fall exhibition, "Post-Pop Redux: Material Based Art by Andy Magee." The exhibition and accompanying educational programs highlight the social and political commentary in art during the height of the presidential election.
Goldtrap Lecture: Andrea Lunsford
Andrea Lunsford is the author of the "St. Martin's Handbook" and studies best practices in teaching writing. Her book "The Everyday Writer" is a primary text for composition courses at Iowa State. The 2012 Goldtrap Lecture
