Reception: "Unpacked: Refugee Baggage" exhibit
Join us for a reception in the newly installed exhibition "Unpacked: Refugee Baggage" currently on view in the Christian Petersen Art Museum. Brief remarks by the artist, who received a BArch in Architecture from ISU in 2009, and University Museums Assistant Curator Adrienne Gennett will begin at 5:15 pm. Light refreshments.

Lecture: Refugee Stories, The Art of Mohamad Hafez
Mohamad Hafez came to the United States to study architecture at Iowa State University and was unable to return to his beloved Syria. He will speak about his art, his story, and the stories he visually recreates of refugees from around the world.
Ringo Starr and His All Starr Band
The 2018 All Starr Band includes Colin Hay ("Who Can It be Now", "Land Down Under"), Steve Lukather ("Africa", "Hold The Line", "Roseanna"), Gregg Rolie ("Black Magic Woman", "Evil Ways") and new member Graham Gouldman of 10cc ("I'm Not In Love", "Things We Do For Love"). On percussion and sax is Warren Ham and on drums Gregg Bissonette.

Film: The Age of the Stateless
Screenwriter Gaelle Bellan (Spiral, 2017) has thoroughly documented the refugee situation and clearly denounces the deficiencies of an outdated, dehumanized system. Directed by Virginie Sauveur, this film won Best TV Movie, Best Screenplay and Best Original Music Awards at the 2018 Luchon Television Festival and the Audience Award at FIPA, the International Audiovisual Festival in Biarritz.
Walk-in Argentine Tango
This Milonga (dance party) is a multi-level class with lots of time to enjoy the music and dance. From 4-5pm, moves for beginners are introduced with a different figure each week along with techniques for better dancing. From 5-7pm, the floor is yours for dancing under the guidance of Valerie Williams, and for working with different partners. An intermediate level figure will also be introduced during this time.

Resin Butterfly Wing Pendants Walk-in Craft
Choose a beautiful wing from Reiman Gardens' Butterfly Conservatory to turn into a lovey resin pendant. Wings are gathered after butterflies die naturally, so no butterflies will be harmed, only celebrated by their beauty. The butterfly is the symbol of Wings of Refuge, a program for the aftercare of human-trafficking victims, and proceeds from this event will support their initiative to bring a Wings of Refuge home to the Ames area.
Artful Yoga
This practice will enrich your yoga experience by going beyond the physical and inviting an artistic perspective to your awareness. Please arrive a few minutes early for a brief discussion of the current exhibition with a yoga twist. The practice will begin at 5:30. No yoga experience is necessary. Please bring your own mat.
