Training: Fire Safety, Extinguisher
Participants learn common ignition sources of fires and good practices for the storage of flammable and combustible materials with the goal of preventing fires; what to know and do ahead of time in order to be prepared for a fire emergency; the proper steps to take in the event of a fire; when to use a fire extinguisher and how to handle the extinguisher by putting out a simulated fire. Training: CPR, AED and First Aid
Participants learn and become certified in adult and pediatric CPR, first aid, and AED by the American Heart Association. Topics include: breathing and cardiac emergencies; identifying and caring for bleeding; caring for sudden illness and injuries; preventing disease transmission; and AED training. This course also serves as a recertification course for CPR and first aid. Registration required.

Campus Fire Safety Day
As part of Campus Fire Safety Month, Environmental Health and Safety is hosting its annual Fire Safety Day. Stop by to put out a simulated fire, learn fire safety tips, meet Ames fire fighters and receive a free T-shirt.
Training: Biosafety labs
"Biosafety Level 2 Laboratories and You," learn what biohazardous materials are, where they are found, principle routes of exposure, proper PPE, universal precaution, common techniques in a BSL2, decontamination of and disposal of biological materials, lab equipment used in a BSL2, engineering controls, reporting procedures, signage and standard operating procedures. Registration required.
