Performance: This is Not a Pipe Dream
Inspired by the life and work of surrealist painter Rene Magritte, the play by Barry Kornhauser follows a young boy who wants to be an artist. Though his desire is dismissed by his father as "a pipe dream," he is encouraged by his mother and begins a quest into the delightfully absurd magic-realism of Magritte's famous paintings.
Walk-in Argentine Tango
This Milonga (dance party) is a multi-level class with lots of time to enjoy the music and dance. From 4-5pm, moves for beginners are introduced with a different figure each week along with techniques for better dancing. From 5-7pm, the floor is yours for dancing under the guidance of Valerie Williams, and for working with different partners. An intermediate level figure will also be introduced during this time.

October Craft of the Month: Sugar Skulls
Dia de los Muertos (Day of the Dead) is a Mexican holiday for celebrating and honoring those who have passed. One tradition includes building ofrendas (altars) honoring the deceased using brightly colored skulls, marigolds, and possessions of the departed. Instead of sugar, our skulls are paper mache, but we invite you to decorate them in the spirit of Dia de los Muertos using paint, glitter, gems, flowers and other adornments.
Monday Monologues series
"Get Out the Vote Plays," Tiffany Antone, lecturer in music and theatre will curate short, nonpartisan plays. This lunchtime series features facets of composition and art through a series of readings or performances curated by Iowa State faculty. Bring your lunch or stop by Bookends Café on your way.

Sugar Skull Cross Stitch Workshop
Create a cross stitch project inspired by the Mexican holiday Dia de los Muertos (Day of the Dead). Learn to read a pattern, get the hang of working with a needle and thread for stitching and leave with all the supplies (and the know-how!) to finish on your own.

Ames Art Studio Tour
The College of Design is one of 13 stops on the Ames Community Arts Council Studio Tour. The College of Design will feature open studios in ceramics, printmaking, textiles, woods, metals, photography, digital media and painting. Students will be available to display current works and talk to the public about what they are learning.

Crafts & Draughts in Campustown will feature crafting projects led by volunteers from The Workspace. Crafts are designed to be fun and easy for everyone.
