"Using GIS Capabilities to Address Emergency Management Requirements," LTC Jared L. Ware, Deputy Commander, Rock Island District, U.S. Army Corps of Engineers. Ware will describe the Rock Island District's GIS capabilities and services to support emergency situations. Part of the GIS Seminar Series.

The United States Army Corps of Engineers - Rock Island District applies its GIS capabilities to address emergency management requirements. The district's emergency management staff has dedicated GIS support to support the crisis management team with products in the event of an emergency situation. The district also has a GIS Section that manages and maintains an enterprise GIS, and provides GIS services in support of the district for engineering projects, hydrological studies, floodplain analysis, and for data storage and analysis in the event of disasters.

This brief will outline Rock Island District's GIS capabilities and how products are created to support emergency situations. Additionally, the brief will address geospatial products that analyze impacted areas (pre and post event) to provide solutions to any issues encountered. Moreover, the brief will address concepts on how to better enable data sharing with state and local municipalities prior to disaster events to better plan, analyze, and determine courses of action in an effort to be better prepared for the outcomes.

The GIS Seminar Series is sponsored by the Community and Regional Planning Program. It is free and open to the public.
