Inaki Alday is the Elwood R. Quesada Professor of Architecture and chair of the architecture department at the University of Virginia. With Margarita Jover he also is a founder and principal of aldayjover architecture and landscape in Barcelona, Spain. In his lecture, Alday will share several of the firm's projects dealing with landscape and territory, urban public space and public buildings.

Boundaries are increasingly blurred among the traditional design disciplines. Complexity in problems and solutions, in design teams and social players, in technical requirements and multiscale impacts are expanding the role of architecture and architects. A responsible social and environmental position deals with multiple scales and logics, in a critical and demanding approach to new and known technologies. The designers take leadership in managing this complexity, identifying problems, proposing solutions and adding contemporary cultural value.

In his lecture, Alday will share several of his firm's projects dealing with landscape and territory, urban public space and public buildings. Works challenged to the integration of different scales, to the aim of public service and to the transformation of the society through the increasing of the quality of collective architecture and city space.
