Bonsai Show
October 6, 9:00 a.m. - 6:00 p.m. and October 7, 9:00 a.m. - 4:00 p.m. Please join us at Reiman Gardens for the annual bonsai exhibit in conjunction with the Iowa Bonsai Association. Bonsai, an ancient Asian art form that weds horticulture and art, is a rapidly growing and popular passion in the west.
Ames Art Studio Tour
The College of Design is one of 13 stops on the Ames Community Arts Council Studio Tour. The College of Design will feature open studios in ceramics, printmaking, textiles, woods, metals, photography, digital media and painting. Students will be available to display current works and talk to the public about what they are learning.

Developing Empathy: The Refugee Experience
Held in the exhibition Unpacked: Refugee Baggage, participants will be facilitated in making contemporary connections to the refugee experience using the reflective model developed by the civics education organization, Facing History and Ourselves.
Performance: This is Not a Pipe Dream
Inspired by the life and work of surrealist painter Rene Magritte, the play by Barry Kornhauser follows a young boy who wants to be an artist. Though his desire is dismissed by his father as "a pipe dream," he is encouraged by his mother and begins a quest into the delightfully absurd magic-realism of Magritte's famous paintings.

Walk-in Argentine Tango
This Milonga (dance party) is a multi-level class with lots of time to enjoy the music and dance. From 4-5pm, moves for beginners are introduced with a different figure each week along with techniques for better dancing. From 5-7pm, the floor is yours for dancing under the guidance of Valerie Williams, and for working with different partners. An intermediate level figure will also be introduced during this time.

It's a tough transition for everyone, made tougher by the fact that the family is still unaware of baby Jack-Jack's emerging superpowers. When a new villain hatches a brilliant and dangerous plot, the family and Frozone must find a way to work together again.

The Office for Responsible Research, Office of the Attending Veterinarian and Laboratory Animal Resources are offering software training for researchers who submit IACUC or IBC protocols. Participants will learn how to navigate the new electronic protocol submission system, a-tune. Training topics will include creating and submitting a protocol, and, for animal users of LAR, how to order animals and manage animal records.

A Hollywood Career in Costume Design - Black Panther's Ruth E. Carter
Ruth E. Carter is the Oscar-nominated costume designer for Marvel's Black Panther, for which she conceptualized and created more than 1,000 costumes for the world of Wakanda. She has worked in the industry for more than three decades and is credited with over forty films.
More Than Just a Game, Discrimination in Sports in Iowa
Iowa's athletes have long impacted their teams, communities and sports they played, but African Americans did so while facing off against more than just the opposing team. They fought for the right to equal treatment on and off the field. Highlighting people such as Iowan and Olympian Thomas Hill, Drake University athlete Johnny Bright and his effect on the football helmet, and members of the Buxton Wonders, Iowa's Negro Leagues team.
