Social Justice Summit
For 40 Iowa State students. This event is an opportunity for them to learn more about inclusion issues and what social justice means to them and to their community. Applications can be completed online and are due Jan. 21. The summit continues 9 a.m.-5 p.m. Saturday.

Dance social
Free dance social hosted by the ISU Ballroom Dance Club. Singles welcome. Dress is casual, however indoor shoes or socks must be worn in the studio. Check the website for a full schedule.

Performance: Barjche 2011
Barjche 2011 will focus on the theme of space. Within this motif there will be explorations of personal space, shared space, site-specific performance and a funky second half that celebrates outer space. This yearly dance concert is produced in conjunction with Orchesis I and features student, faculty and guest artist choreography.

Join Jo Myers-Walker of the Left Bank Studio in Gilbert, Iowa, as she teaches a series of seven classes on watercolors and her trademark slumping plastic that will surely help you beat the winter blues.

A necktie, a sugar bowl, a bowl of soup - these are just a few of the seemingly simple subjects Mark Adams depicts in his watercolors. Why are these common, everyday objects the focus in his art? Join Nancy Girard, educator, for a gallery walk of "Mark Adams: Translation of Light" to learn more about why common object are popular in art and how our visual attitudes and experiences shape our perceptions of them.

Graduate Student Teaching and Learning Circle: McKeachie's Teaching Tips
"McKeachie's Teaching Tips" has long been a valued resource for beginning and experienced teachers alike. This circle, specifically for graduate students, will read and discuss portions of McKeachie's 13th edition text, which covers such topics as course preparation, discussion and lecture, grading and assessment and more. Participants may check out a copy on loan from CELT.

GIS Seminar: Conservation Subdivision Design: using bluffland protection to aid residential development
Clint Sloss, ISU graduate student in community and regional planning, established a bluffland protection district model and identified potential sites adjacent to scenic areas to minimize the ecological effects of residential development. He then used Randall Arendt's Conservation Subdivision Design methodology to establish a regional conservation map for Allamakee County.

Black Faces of War
Robert V. Morris is the author of the new illustrated history Black Faces of War: A Legacy of Honor from the American Revolution to Today. The grandson and son of two decorated army officers, Morris founded the Fort Des Moines Memorial Park and the WWII Iowa Tuskegee Airmen Memorial at the Des Moines International Airport. His documentary Tradition And Valor was broadcast on Iowa Public Television.

Mark your calendar from 12:00 pm-1:00 pm Tuesdays this month and enjoy the 150 year old structure in a whole new way. Check the University Museums website to learn what the discussion topic will be. Can't make it at noon? The Farm House will be serving tea from 12 to 4 pm on Tuesdays so stop in any time.
