Since critical thinking is "assumed" by most faculty, the questions is why should we assess, and what is it that we are assessing. This session will focus on why should we assess it, the importance, and generally how do we go about assessing it. Who should attend?

Workshop: Fabric Design for Pillows
Beloved artists Jo Myers-Walker is back at the Gardens, and she's bringing her joyful expertise in fabric design to the 5th Annual Garden Quilt Show. Pillows add a welcoming feeling and hospitality to any room. The trend has been neutral walls and a splash of color in a pillow that makes a statement about our interests and passions. We will be using acrylic paints on cotton using watercolor washes & techniques. All supplies are provided.

Concert: Lenny Cooper
Lenny Cooper's fans are often the hillbilly mud-bogging crowd, who like their country mixed in with some urban beats and a little bit of rap. A self-described accidental artist, Cooper wrote the song "Mud Digger," about his favorite pastime, when he was 17 and posted a video of it on YouTube. The song began to rack up views, and attracted the notice of Colt Ford, who signed Cooper to his Average Joe's label.
Ballroom dance showcase
Free ballroom performance, showcasing tango and swing. The performance features the Des Moines Dance ballroom formation team.

Quilt Show

Training: "How to Write a P&S Position Description"
University human resources is offering training on "How to Write a Professional and Scientific Position Description" in conjunction with the new PeopleAdmin 7 system training. Anyone who writes or assists with writing position descriptions is encouraged to attend. Training is offered weekly beginning Aug. 26 through Nov. 24. Long shots and short shots: everyone wants to take a good photograph. Learn the basics of using your Digital SLR camera including settings, speeds, lighting and composition. Students will explore campus to use their new skills shooting photographs of their favorite sites and share those photographs to discuss technique, composition and design.
