Focus Grant Exhibit
FOCUS is an annual celebration of the arts in which the Lectures Program and the Student Union Board (SUB) fund creative projects in the visual and performing arts proposed by Iowa State students. Many students have majors outside of the arts but make an important contribution to the creative climate of campus life. FOCUS aims to encourage and reward the artistic endeavors of all Iowa State students, regardless of their academic focus.

"From an Egg and Beyond" - Learn about all kinds of eggs, then how a story grows, and a painting
ComETS Symposium
Keynote address, "Empowering the Academy for the Digital Age," by Dr. George Saltsman, Abilene Christian University, Texas. The symposium also will feature 10-minute presentations by ISU faculty and staff on various learning technology tips and strategies. The symposium will be capped by a student panel, discussing their use of mobile devices, and what they'd like to see from the university.
Floral Design Series
Learn the basics of floral design while creating beautiful arrangements to take home. Updated with new classes! Learn the tips and skills used by professionals and create your own one-of-a-kind floral designs. Those who complete all nine classes will receive a certificate of floral design from Reiman Gardens.

Governance and Planning: Locating the will and power to plan in the Americas
Enrique Silva, assistant professor of urban affairs and city planning at Boston University Metropolitan College, takes a governance-based approach to assess the political and institutional opportunities planners face in two distinct national political contexts: Chilean (neoliberal) centralism in boom times and Haitian hyper-fragmented institutionalism in times of disaster.
Seminar: NGS in Phylogenetics
Paul Hohenlohe, Departments of Biological Sciences and Statistics, University of Idaho, will lead a seminar on the use of next-generation sequencing technologies and their applications to population genomics and phylogenetics. A reception will follow.

Challenging the Status Quo for Native American Women
"Stories from a Career in Film, Finance and Philanthropy." Valerie Red-Horse, of Cherokee ancestry, is a filmmaker, entrepreneur and investment banker. She has raised or assisted in more than $2 billion in financings for American Indian Tribal Projects and founded two female Native American-owned investment banks on Wall Street.
