Seminar: Resiliency in the workplace

Presentation: Coming Out 101
To raise awareness and celebrate National Coming Out Day (Oct. 11), the office of LGBT student services will host a presentation on the coming out process and the support resources available at Iowa State.

Brown Bag Lunch: OUT for lunch

Faculty Senate meeting
The Faculty Senate represents the general faculty of Iowa State University and participates in shared governance of the University with the administration. Senate meetings are open to the public and adjourn at 5 p.m.
Open house: Special Collections
The open house will showcase a collection of rare and unique volumes donated by Robert Harvey, professor emeritus of landscape architecture. Most of the volumes, which cover ag, gardening and landscape design topics, date back to the 19th century; the oldest is from 1724. Harvey and library conservator Melissa Tedone will be available for questions. A selection of books also will be on display.

Information session: Institutional Review Board
The Office for Responsible Research is sponsoring an informational session about the Institutional Review Board (IRB). Kerry Agnitsch, IRB co-chair, will present an overview of the process for obtaining approval to conduct research involving human subjects, especially IRB's approval criteria and the importance of the informed consent process. CyGraph meeting
The first meeting of Cygraph, a group of students and faculty interested in all things related to computer graphics. Dr. Song Zhang's research group will discuss and demo their high-resolution real-time 3-D imaging system. Their system infiltrated pop culture when British band Radiohead used it to produce a music video for their song "House of Cards."

Fall Festival: ISU Horticulture Club
Celebrate the fall season by spending a day at the orchard and pumpkin patch, an annual festival hosted by the horticulture club. Club members will sell apples and pumpkins produced on site and local cider. Apple varieties include Iowa State's Chieftain apple and the Golden Delicious. There will also be tours, children's activities, speakers and demonstrations.
