Diversifying your syllabus involves more than simply including diverse and Indigenous scholars and/or topics in your course materials. Rather, it recognizes that there are diverse perspectives of what constitutes reality and what constitutes knowledge within a discipline or in course content. Additionally, diversification recognizes that multiple realities exist and that knowledge should be owned and created by everyone.

"White Mansions, Black Bodies: Jordan Peele's 'Get Out' and the New Age Slave Plantation," ISU associate professor of communications Novotny Lawrence. This lecture will discuss Jordan Peele's horror thriller "Get Out," demonstrating ways the director employs traditional filmmaking storytelling tropes to examine contemporary racial politics. Peele uses the cinema as a tool for social activism. A live Q&A will follow the lecture.

Webinar, Black women & belongingness: An interrogation of STEM education as a white, patriarchal space
This interactive research presentation engages audience members with empirical data to deconstruct ideas of Black women's belongingness in STEM education as a white, patriarchal space. Statistics from recent National Science Foundation reports of advanced degrees in mathematical sciences are used along with Black women's narratives of experience in STEM majors as well as perceptions of instruction in introductory courses.
