Applying the Quality Matters Rubric (APPQMR) Workshop
This Quality Matters (QM) flagship workshop on the QM Rubric and its use in reviewing the design of online and blended courses is intended for a broad audience, including but not limited to faculty, instructional designers, administrators, and instructors. It is particularly helpful to those new to QM or those considering the adoption of a quality assurance process for online and blended learning.
Mental health crisis training (RESPOND)
An 8-hour training for ISU faculty, staff and administrators who wish to learn more about how to RESPOND to students or colleagues who are in distress. Training concludes May 21. Register online.
Special Olympics Iowa summer games
More than 3,000 athletes participate in Special Olympics Iowa's largest annual event. Competition includes aquatics, athletics (track & field), bocce, cycling, developmental events, soccer and tennis. Athletes also enjoy Opening Ceremonies at Hilton Coliseum, a Celebration Dance, and activities and entertainment at the Olympic Festival.
Ceremony: Faculty-Staff Inspiration Award
Five current or former ISU faculty or staff members will receive this award from the Alumni Association, which launched the award in 2011 to give former ISU students a means to recognize faculty or staff who had a significant influence in their student lives. A 5:30 p.m. reception precedes the ceremony. Register online by May 11.

Boot Camp: Responsible Conduct of Research
Faculty, staff and postdocs who receive funding through the National Science Foundation (NSF) or certain National Institutes of Health (NIH) grants are invited to participate in a two-day "boot camp" that will satisfy NIH and NSF requirements for training in the Responsible Conduct of Research.
CELT Course Design Institute
"Build a pathway to student learning in Canvas," a four-day event full of interactive, hands-on and collaborative activities to give ISU's instructors skills, time and space for designing or substantially revising their courses. The Institute will take place May 21-24.
Retirement reception: Doug Swanson
Doug Swanson, manager of CyBowl & Billiards in the Memorial Union, is retiring May 31. Refreshments will be served.

Research Workshop: Submission software training
The Office for Responsible Research will transition to a new electronic system for submission, review, and maintenance of Institutional Animal Care and Use Committee (IACUC) and Institutional Biosafety Committee (IBC) applications. The a-tune tick@lab system will go live in early 2018, integrating research, teaching and testing protocols, animal procurement and management, as well as veterinary medical records.
