Youth Program: Plant Pals
Join us and cultivate a real garden at Reiman Gardens. We will learn about and grow lots of vegetables, pumpkins, tomatoes and sunflowers, as well as beautiful flowers. Each session has hands-on activities to interact with all the wonderful plants that we enjoy and eat. Classes are great for kids of all ages to participate in with an adult. Classes are held every other Thursday from May 7 to September 10.
Paint Your Own Pottery: Red, White, and Blue
"Painting" bisque is a fun and relaxing activity that can be done solo or with a group of friends. Wear the American flag colors and get 20% off bisque. Studio fee is $4 for ISU and $5 for public to attend plus the cost of the bisque you select.
Garden Drawing Workshop
This is a 4 week course on Thursdays beginning June 18, June 25, July 2, and July 9 from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. Join local artist and Creative Department founder, Yvonne Brune for a 6-week course exploring the basics of garden and nature drawing, using the indoor and outdoor gardens as inspiration. Learn techniques in pencil, pen and ink, and enrich your drawings with the use of color by working with pastels.
Intro to Social Dance Class
This is a 6 week course on Thursdays beginning June 25, July 2, July 9, July 16, July 23, and July 30 from 7:00 to 9:00 p.m. In this 6-week course, you'll learn a variety of social dances in a beautiful garden setting, from one of the best instructors Ames has to offer! No experience necessary.

Independence Day Fireworks
Reiman Gardens is open until the conclusion of the Ames fireworks display, which begins at dusk. Visitors may bring folding chairs, blankets and coolers with food and drinks, but must keep all fireworks and sparklers outside the fence.

Family Activity: Discovery Stations
Drop by for fun, informal activities in the Gardens during the summer that relate to themed garden areas. Discovery Stations are family oriented and designed so both youth & adults can participate in the activities. Each discovery station focuses on a corresponding educational activity and/or garden display, as well as interpretation of the 2015theme: "Celebrating the Past & the Future." Visitors can stop by any time to participate.
Independence Day at the Farm House
Join University Museums for 4th of July fun after the downtown Ames parade. Celebrate the 155-year-old first building on Iowa State campus and the agricultural heritage of the institution. The Onion Creek Cloggers and Band will perform from 1:30 to 3:00pm and the Gilbert Tractor Club will have a showing of many historic tractors and several balers during the event.

Great Plants for Iowa Series
Topic: Annuals - Beyond the Basics Develop knowledge of the wide variety of garden plants that grow well in Central Iowa. Covering nearly 500 plants, 16 total classes are spread across 4 years. Each class focuses on identification, cultural requirements, and the use of the plants in gardens and the broader landscape.
Screen Printing Class
Learn an inexpensive way to create custom t-shirts. Using your own design, learn to make a screen with the photographic emulsion method. Bring in your shirts and print away! This class is required in order to use our screen printing equipment.
Watercolor Class
Watercolor is a powerful and technical medium in which one can achieve beautiful results with a relatively quick sketch, or brilliant finished work with the investment of more time and craft. Watercolor is easy to use and this class will teach a variety of techniques from realistic to abstract in fun exercises. Experiment with both traditional and liquid watercolors. Suitable for the beginning painter or those with some experience.

Kids' Story Time
Each session features a theme with two or three books read aloud followed by a related craft or activity. The books, crafts and activities are intended for children ages two to seven years old. All children must be accompanied by an adult. This class is held every other Tuesday from May 12 through August 18.

Bird Houses Class
Make two houses for your fine, feathered friends. The first will be a traditional style made of cedar. Then, make one with a little more personality - use a vintage license plate for the roof and a manipulated fork for a landing spot. Both will be functional homes for the wildlife in your backyard.

Walk-In Craft: Sock Monkeys
A twist on the traditional monkey! Choose from bright patterned socks including Cyclone themed socks to create an original soft character. Get ideas for accessories and personalizing, and enjoy the camaraderie of stitching as a group. Most people won't finish within the time allotted, but everyone will leave with the supplies and know-how to complete at home.

Photography Class
Long shots and short shots: everyone wants to take a good photograph. Learn the basics of using your Digital SLR camera including settings, speeds, lighting and composition. Students will explore campus to use their new skills shooting photographs of their favorite sites and share those photographs to discuss technique, composition and design.

Simple dresses made out of pillowcases provide relief and hope for the children of Africa. We will provide the supplies, but can use the hands of volunteers to assist with making the dresses. From cutting fabric and ironing to sewing, there is a place for anyone who has an hour or two to spare. Drop in to our community studio to help another community of children in the orphanages of Central Africa. www.littledressesforafrica.org

Garden Art Fair
Reiman Gardens' Annual Garden Art Fair returns on Sunday July 12 from 9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. The show provides a wonderful opportunity for artists to share their garden and nature inspired art with the public. Visitors will enjoy browsing dozens of eclectic booths, and buy products including jewelry, watercolor, pottery, woodwork, glass, and more.

Argentine Tango
This Milonga is a multi-level class with lots of time to enjoy the music and dance. From 4-5pm moves for beginners are introduced with a different figure each week along with techniques for dancing better. From 5-7pm the dance floor is yours for dancing under the guidance of Valerie and working with different partners. An intermediate level figure will also be introduced during this time. Wear dancing shoes, smooth-soled shoes, or socks.
