Learn more about ISU Digital Press' book publishing software, Pressbooks, an easy-to-use tool that allows authors to export their online text into multiple formats (PDF, EPUB, MOBI) and integrate interactive videos and tools for active learning.
Meditation is like exercise - everyone knows it would be good for them, but they don't really want to do it. Part of the reason some people have a difficult time maintaining a mindfulness practice is because they believe one or more of the myths of mindfulness, such as you're supposed to stop thinking.

In this session, you will learn how to determine whether IRB oversight is required for your project. We'll also examine the various levels of IRB review (Exempt, Expedited, Full Committee).
CELT's Choose Your Instructional Tool Adventure focuses on various instructional strategies found on the CELT website and demonstrates practical ways to incorporate these tools in a Canvas course. This session will have a focus on student evaluation of teaching and include strategies incorporating plus/delta and class climate.
Paola Pittoni, Associate Teaching Professor of Mechanical Engineering and university early achievement in teaching awardee, will share with you ten ways to connect with students. When students have a rapport with their instructor, they feel more comfortable in the learning environment and are more likely to ask questions and collaborate in the learning goals.
Canvas makes collaboration and sharing resources simple! In this workshop, you will learn how to locate resources in the Canvas Commons, import them into your course shells in Canvas and customize imported content for your own needs. You can also share the content you created with colleagues via Canvas Commons.

This workshop, the third in a series or stand-alone, brings elements of effective teaching together so faculty can organize evidence of their teaching, analyze their effectiveness, and create their teaching narrative. Participants will identify themes in their teaching feedback from themselves, peers, and students, and connect it to their teaching philosophy statement.

In this brown-bag lunch session, Jenny Aune (Teaching Professor, Department of English) will talk about teaching a communication course with the theme of nature of science and scientific thinking. More specifically, she will share her experiences using nonfiction and podcasts to teach students about communication in difficult contexts and with audiences from multiple perspectives.
When disruptive conduct takes place, some Iowa State University instructors recommend addressing it immediately. Their advice: remain calm, assess the situation, listen to student concerns. Especially recommended: provide a clear, firm response that is consistent with what you've given other students.

We work as teams to optimize application exercises, readiness assurance tests, peer evaluation, and other aspects of course design, and also invite speakers to facilitate discussions of TBL theory, research and classroom application.

Write Winning Grant Proposals is presented by John Roberts from Grant Writers' Seminars and Workshops LLC and organized by the Office of the Vice President for Research for faculty and staff. This workshop will emphasize idea development and writing strategies that are of proven value in preparing a grant application. Registration is free; space is limited.
Join CELT staff for practical tips to using Canvas Gradebook for efficient grading. Upon completion, you will be able to configure Canvas for various grading scenarios, use Canvas Gradebook filtering and sorting functions, and optimize the Speedgrader for your teaching needs. Workshop will include a 20-minute Q&A block in order to address participants' questions specific to using Canvas Gradebook.

Learn how to showcase your skills by sharing your research and leveraging popular social networks used by academics and researchers: ResearchGate, Academia, Humanities Commons, and Twitter. In addition to social networks, you will learn how to take advantage of tools like ORCID and the ISU Digital Repository to increase the impact of your work.
