Kevin Schilling, oboe; Lynn Zeigler, organ and harpsichord; Christopher Hopkins, cello.

Kevin Schilling will give his final recital as the oboe teacher at Iowa State University on Friday, September 30, at 7:30pm in the Martha-Ellen Tye Recital Hall in the Music Building at Iowa State. He will retire from teaching at the end of the 2011-2012 academic year after his 40th year on the faculty of Iowa State University.
Joining him will be colleagues Lynn Zeigler, on organ and harpsichord, and Christopher Hopkins, cello. Ms Zeigler and Schilling have played many joint recitals, over more than 35 years, around Iowa, as well as in Colorado, Illinois, Indiana, and Germany. Zeigler retired herself in May, 2011.
The three musicians will play two baroque works by Telemann for basso continuo (harpsichord and cello) and oboe. Harpsichord will also be used in a 20th century piece by Michael Head, which he based on a baroque model including its title, "Siciliana."
The second half of the concert will feature works for oboe and the beautiful recital hall organ. Works include the Sonata Da Chiesa II (1985) by Robert M. Helmschrottt; Rhapsody by Morgan Nicholas, originally for oboe and piano; and Introduction, Theme, and Variations, by Johann Nepomuk Hummel, originally for oboe and orchestra.
The concert is free and open to the public.
