Signature Research Themes workshop
"Exploring Data-Rich Environments." Examine new avenues for data-driven research in the sciences, humanities and business by leveraging strengths in the mathematical sciences. Register by emailing Kristin Doerder (kjandrsn@iastate.edu) by noon, Oct. 4. The two keynote lectures are open to everyone, and no registration is required. Registration is required for the remainder of the workshop and dinner.

The seminar is part of a celebration to honor University Professor John Verkade, who is retiring after 53 years at ISU.

Zora Devrnja Zimmerman, associate dean for undergraduate programs in the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences and professor of English, is retiring. Colleagues are invited to email best wishes for a book the college will compile to Laura Wille (lge@iastate.edu).

Latino Heritage Month Button Making
Celebrate the long and important presence of Hispanic and Latino Americans in north America during Latino Heritage Month stop by during open hours September 23 - October 13 to make a button or magnet. Designs feature inspirational quotes and iconic images that celebrate achievements by Latino Americans.
Paint Your Own Pottery: Despicable Me Minions
Join us for a fun exploration of techniques in "painting" bisque. Dave, Stuart, Jerry, or Carl? Use a stencil to transfer your favorite minion onto your piece. Finish it off by adding in your favorite quote. We will have samples for inspiration but your own ideas are always welcome too. Studio fee is $4 for ISU and $5 for public to attend plus the cost of the bisque you select
Planetarium Shows
Are you curious about space? Do you wonder about what you can see in the night sky? If so, bring your questions and come to the ISU Planetarium to learn more. The first show, starting at 6:30 pm will be 20 minutes and for kids. Shows at 7 pm and 7:30 pm and are suitable for all ages. Free tickets for the shows will be available at the door starting at 6:15 pm. Seating is limited.
