"Catholicism and Buddhism: Eastern and Western Spiritualities in Dialogue," Fr. Alan Hartway, chair of the interdisciplinary studies program at Naropa University, the only accredited Buddhist university in the United States. His ministry is in the context of daily interreligious dialogue. Msgr. James A. Supple Lecture.

Abstract: In a world of global spiritualities, the encounter of East and West arises from two equally ancient, rich, and deep traditions, at once parallel and different, which meet one another in the silence of contemplative practices and the dharma talk/homiletic ritual. This presentation will explore interreligious dialogue, and explore the rich parallels of Buddhist contemplative practice and Catholic centering prayer. We will also explore the meaning of reconciliation and tong-len as contemplative act.
