"Energy Efficiency and Preservation of Small-Scale Midwestern Main Street Commercial Heritage," Ulrike Passe, assistant professor of architecture and director of the Center for Building Energy Research. Passe will talk about her current work with the Green & Main project, a small-scale "Main Street"-type building found in the Sherman Hill Historic District of Des Moines. All are welcome to attend.

This presentation will document and evaluate the Green & Main project, a small-scale "Main Street"-type building found in the Sherman Hill Historic District of Des Moines. Upon completion, the building will be the first LEED Platinum-certified retrofit building in Iowa and will serve as a model for the surrounding community and state.

Through interviewing those involved in this truly integrated design process, observing and participating in the process along the way to prepare for energy metering of the building after completion, the Center for Building Energy Research (CBER) will create documentation that can help educate and inform others to perform similar small-scale retrofits, and save Main Street heritage one building at a time.

The Works in Progress Series (WiPS) features informal talks by faculty from the colleges of Design and Liberal Arts and Sciences. All are welcome to attend.
