NSF conference: "Science: Becoming the Messenger"
For faculty, principal investigators, early caréer researchers, postdocs, graduate students, undergraduates and communications professionals in Iowa who would like to communicate science effectively to a broad audience. Class: Winter Photography Series
Explore the photographic potential of the winter landscape in this unique once-per-month series taught by Mark Stoltenberg, of Mark Stoltenberg Photography. Learn the fundamentals of winter photography, from preparation to practice to processing. Each session will focus on specific challenges of taking winter photographs, incorporating practical and technical discussion with studio session and follow-up/troubleshooting.

Graphic Design Lecture: Sol Sender, VSA Partners
Graphic designer and brand strategist Sol Sender, a partner at VSA Partners and founding director of the IBM Design Lab, will discuss his work in the ARTGR 281 Introduction to Visual Communication and Branding class. Sender is best known for creating President Obama's 2008 campaign logo. His lecture is free and open to the public.
Library workshop
"Knovel: An Introduction to A Major SciTech eBook Collection," Gerry McKiernan. Knovel provides a searchable database of handbooks, datasets and reference sources in science, technology and engineering through a single interface. The ISU library now offers access to nearly 4,000 full-text ebooks through this service in a broad range of disciplines.

From Aid to Resilience: West African Farmers Lead the Way
This program, in celebration of World Food Day, features two women farm leaders from West Africa. Susan Godwin has adapted her small-scale farm to meet changing market demands. She received the 2012 Female Food Hero award in Nigeria. Dienaba Diallo join her ethnic group's traditional vocation of animal herding despite encroachment of the Saharan Desert into her community's grazing lands. World Affairs Series.
