Women's Empowerment and Leadership Conference
WE Lead brings students together to network with each other, as well as female leaders at Iowa State and the Central Iowa community. Kate Gilbert was dissatisfied. Coming from Industry into academics, she knew employers were looking for critical thinkers who understood food systems intimately and could connect the dots to problem solve production issues. Workshop: The Pedagogy of Canvas Quizzes
Participants will learn how to use Quizzes in Canvas. The workshop will focus on practical ways to customize Quiz Settings as well as create and administer Quizzes with a variety of question types to accommodate specific learning situations. Quiz Moderation and Analytics will be also explored.

Research Workshop: Writing Winning Grant Proposals
"Writing Winning Grant Proposals." Addresses both practical and conceptual aspects that are important to writing competitive grant proposals. The workshop is tailored to meet the needs of the audience, focusing on the funding agencies (federal, private, and/or industry) that are of greatest interest to the attendees. Emphasis is given to doing the "extra" things that can make the difference between success and failure.

Workshop: Tools for Change: How to increase student success while maintaining academic rigor
Timothy McNicholl, Professor of Mathematics, made big changes for ISU's STEM students. His team reduced pre-calculus's D, drop, and fail rate from 65% to 25% and increased attendance from 60% to 90%. In this interactive workshop, Dr. McNicholl will share the supports ISU and Mathematics put in place, the research that inspired his team, and the tools they created and refined to change how this course is taught at ISU.

The Office for Responsible Research will transition to a new electronic system for submission, review, and maintenance of Institutional Animal Care and Use Committee (IACUC) and Institutional Biosafety Committee (IBC) applications. The a-tune tick@lab system will go live in early 2018, integrating research, teaching and testing protocols, animal procurement and management, as well as veterinary medical records.
